Let us
hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments:
for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into
judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Ecclesiastes
12:13-14
The whole
duty of man can be found in the words fear
God… You are called to adhere to the will of the Father, you are called to
walk in His pathways and do the things that He has called you to do and none of
these things can and/or will be accomplished until you submit yourself under the
mighty hand of God and fear Him… When
you have reverence for the Lord you do not take His precepts lightly… When you understand
Solomon’s conclusion you will begin to realize that everything that God has
desire of you and desire for you can and will be obtained through your respect
and awe of Him… This is why Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his
kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as
well.” When you develop your relationship with the Lord
everything else has no choice but to fall in place… This indeed sums of your
life, if you want peace obey Him, if you want joy honor Him and if you want to
receive the true riches, respect Him… So many of us are focused on trying to do
different things in order to please God; however the bible declares that “without
faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must
believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” I quote this passage
today because faith is required and pleasing God and to have faith you must
have a fear or reverence first… Believing that God can do anything but fail
provides the fear (reverence, respect and awe) that you need to then have faith
in Him and His ability… This again is why Solomon says that it is not about the
things of this earth (which are meaningless) but it is about fearing God and keeping His commandments…
Solomon was the wisest
man to ever live… At this time in his life he has sat on the throne after his
father David over the house of Israel …
He has experienced must success and seen the favor of God displayed upon his
life… Having all that any man could dream of, Solomon still made mistakes which
allowed him to see his kingdom fall and be divided… At this point Solomon has
seen his share of years upon this earth and despite what we seek in our lives
he gives insight into what matters most… He pens this book of Ecclesiastes
dividing non-fiction from fiction, truth from false and right from wrong… He
says in the early chapters that anything we seek on this earth is meaningless
and now he focuses on what really counts and needs to be instilled in all
hearts (young and old)… The bottom line in this journey we call life is that we
must become humble if we want to be exalted, we must lay low if we want to rise
high, we must be submissive to the word and will of God knowing and believing
that the first shall be last and the last shall be first… Often time we talk about the life of Jesus, but never really realize
what great lessons He taught… It was through Jesus’ death on the cross that
we received a chance to inherit Eternal Life; His sacrifice paved the way for
mankind and gave us a promising future if we accept His offering… Jesus now
sits at the right hand of God making intercessions on our behalf… Jesus had to
lie down before He got up (get the point)...
We must
accept the hand that has been dealt to us, we must revere our Lord and Savior
and through humility and acceptance we will receive victory and power… The book
of Ecclesiastes is a book written by Solomon the son of David… It expresses the
practical points of life and how we are commanded to live on this Earth. It is
here at the end of this poetic book that we find the foundation of which a man
is called to stand! As a child of God, we must first fear Him! That is to honor
and adore God’s name, to praise Him through sickness and pain and understand
that all things are held in the palm of His hand! We must believe that God is
the author and finisher of our faith; we must believe that He is the first and
the last, Alpha and the Omega… We must have faith that He holds all His
children upright and that Satan cannot remove us from His hand of love and
kindness! Solomon says this is the conclusion, if you want to
be the best person you can be, if you want to reach the heights that God has
set you to reach, if you want to walk through the doors that God has prepared
for you to walk through; this is what you must do! Fearing God and keeping is
commandments is a lifelong process, it doesn’t happen overnight nor is a one
day thing… This is the conclusion
because everything in life will fall into place if we do these things… When
we are totally surrendered to God we can extend a helping hand to our enemy, we
can love unconditionally, we can forgive people who wronged us and we can
fulfill God’s will for our lives… Fear is a (n) act of submission, reverence or
respect… The term fear in the spiritual since is a positive for all who love
God… This means that you have acknowledged the power God has, you have
submitted yourself to Him and you desire to live a life that is pleasing to our
king… When we learn to fear God we learn our purpose for our life and begin to
really live… Once we “FEAR” God we are next instructed by Solomon that we must
keep His commandments… We are to walk this Earth with a purpose; we are to be
about God’s work and His decree! His decree is that we serve him Only, that we
do not covet, that we don’t steal or kill, that we keep the Sabbath, and that
we honor our mother and father… Jesus gave us a new commandment and that is
that we love one another… We have an obligation to meet and a covenant to
uphold! God has promised us eternal bliss and security, but these are the
things that we are to uphold and abide by. Jesus taught us in the book of
Matthew that we are to love one another even as Christ loved the church and
gave Himself for it! Let us practice and exercise love and the form of
sacrifice unto God and our fellow man… When we are walking according to these
instructions written by Solomon, we will never fear judgment knowing that our
good things will outweigh our bad and Jesus will say “well done!” Fear doesn’t
lead to heartache, worry or trembling, true fear leads to purpose and
Salvation… Let us learn to fear the Lord
and keep His commandments…
BE BLESSED!!!
